Ferrari and Mercedes under special surveillance to control consumption

Ferrari and Mercedes will be under the spotlight of the International Federation at the Chinese Grand Prix regarding the new pressure sensors fuel flow which will be used for the Shanghai race. As we had previously reported, despite the FIA directive on consumption control, it left everyone stunned, including teams and enthusiasts. From the Chinese Grand Prix, precisely, the International Federation decided not to rely exclusively on the flow meter but to use special pressure sensors at different points of the motor supply duct so as to be able to evaluate how the inlet pressure of the flow meter must be equal to the outlet pressure.

The real problem with the tank is that there is a path between the flow meter and the injection point It has no controls and, at least theoretically, it is possible to accumulate petrol after the sensor check, to pump it when more power is needed. The decision was made after some teams may have found the means to circumvent the rule to be able to carry more than the well-known 1 kilos of fuel on Formula 100 cars.

Mercedes and Ferrari ended up in the eye of the storm: if the Stuttgart team, especially in light of Bernie Ecclestone's recent statements, may have been helped by being able to access more serious information about the basic concepts for the creation of new PUs; Ferrari's notable step forward was undoubtedly surprising, so much so that it makes one think that some technicians leaving Brackley and arriving in Maranello may have confided to their new colleagues the Mercedes ploy to circumvent the regulations.
