Ferrari, Alonso: “It's difficult to do better than a fourth place today”

Fernando Alonso eventually had to surrender to the Red Bulls and Button's McLaren in the Belgian GP. The Spanish Ferrari driver fought for a podium position throughout the race but had to settle for fourth place.

Fernando Alonso: “It's difficult to do better than this fourth place today, especially given how much we suffered with the Medium tyres: in these conditions, we are a second and a half slower than the best. Honestly, I didn't think I had a real chance of winning but a podium was within our reach. The strategy allowed us to lead the race in the early stages but then we knew that, in the final part, we would be in more difficulty. I had fun in the first part: the start was good and then there were many good duels. It's a shame about the podium: it was our goal and it was within our reach, despite yesterday's eighth place in qualifying. Compared to the gap we experienced yesterday in qualifying, today the situation was very different but we know well that, with temperatures certainly not as high as those of this summer, we are paying too high a price. At the moment we have to congratulate our opponents who are doing a fantastic job but we won't give up, at least as long as mathematics allows us: we will always try to win, giving our all, starting with Monza, such a special event for Ferrari and for all its fans, but also for the remaining races of this season.”
