Ferrari: Alonso ends the third day of testing in Barcelona in the lead

The Spaniard will return to the track next week

Third day of testing for Scuderia Ferrari at the Circuit de Catalunya, near Barcelona, and last day for Fernando Alonso driving the F138. The Spaniard will return to drive on this track next week for the final test session.

The work program planned by the team was completed without problems with some set-up tests based on the Soft tires - tested by Fernando for the first time this year - and Hard. In total Fernando completed 97 laps, the fastest in a time of 1.21.875.

Fernando Alonso: “Today we focused on comparing the compounds, starting with the Softs and then moving on to the Hards in the afternoon. The track was colder than yesterday, especially in the morning, and the lack of grip made the job of finding the most suitable set-up more complicated. We tried different aerodynamic configurations and for the first time we made some changes to the set-up to better understand the performance and degradation of the tyres. The car reacted to each change in the way I expected and it was useful to make a comparison between the different solutions, especially to understand the direction to take next week, when we will focus more on performance. The tires will once again be one of the crucial aspects to manage this season too: they are softer and faster but also less constant, and undergo rapid degradation with each lap. We will need to work a lot to understand how to best balance the car even if this applies to all teams." Testing on this circuit will continue tomorrow, when Felipe Massa will be on track.
