Ferrari, a qualifying in Monza according to forecasts

At the end of a very tight qualifying at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix, the two Scuderia Ferrari drivers achieved the fourth and sixth fastest time, with Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa respectively. The two Ferrari drivers followed an identical program across the three sessions: one series of laps in Q1 on the Medium tyres, one in Q2 on the Softs and two in Q3 on the remaining two sets of Soft tyres.

“First of all I want to congratulate Sebastian, author of an extraordinary pole: luckily this was the track where on paper they weren't favourites…” declared Stefano Domenicali. “We tried to do our best, aware that we didn't have the best car. The team worked very well throughout the session, trying to make the most of the package available. It's obvious that we want to do well in our home match: we will attack, this is our aim. So far it has been a very intense weekend, from every point of view: we know that the highlight is yet to come."

“If you work for Ferrari you can't be satisfied with a fourth and sixth place in qualifying but we also have to be realistic and know what our current possibilities are,” added Pat Fry. “We worked a lot on the single-seaters in these two days and I think we managed to significantly improve their performance between one session and another: I think the qualifying result is confirmation of this, given where we started yesterday morning. It's clear that the higher temperatures helped us, especially in making the Mediums work better, so much so that we had never been so close to McLaren and Red Bull as we were in Q1. The two riders also worked very well, always attacking to seek the limit. Tomorrow will be a very close race. From a strategy point of view, it will be interesting to see how much the first portion can be extended to understand how many stops will have to be made. Temperatures will be another important factor, especially regarding tire degradation. The start will also be a "hot" moment, as always here in Monza".
