Fernando Alonso will not race the Bahrain GP, the Spaniard has not had the OK from the doctors

Sensational in Sakhir; Fernando Alonso has not received the OK from the FIA doctors to compete in the Bahrain GP. The McLaren-Honda driver, involved in a frightening accident in Australia, underwent FIA medical examinations as per regulations on Thursday morning to receive his fitness to race.

However, the Federation doctors stopped the Spaniard, probably due to trauma to the ribs and chest which turned out to be more serious than expected. Alonso was held in the FIA medical center for almost ninety minutes and had already appeared dark-faced upon leaving. It is likely that the doctors assigned to examine him had already made their doubts known to him.

The Spaniard, who miraculously escaped the Melbourne flight unharmed, had complained of some pain in his ribs, but nothing suggested such an abrupt stop. The Spaniard will therefore miss another world GP after the Australian one in 2015; last year the cause was the long stop following the mysterious accident in the winter tests, this time it should be a simple precaution of a more strictly orthopedic nature. Apparently the FIA didn't feel like giving the "green" to a driver in less than perfect physical condition, especially if he was still in pain, considering that driving a single-seater with a crack in his ribs is not ideal.

In the Federation's statement, signed by communications manager Matteo Bonciani, we read that the results of the visit did not allow Fernando to start the GP because “After the results of two chest CT scans it was decided that the consequences of the accident would not have allowed him to compete in maximum safety” e that a further check-up visit will be carried out before the Chinese GP.

In place of Fernando Alonso, McLaren's third driver and reigning GP2 champion will race. Stoffel vandoorne. The twenty-four year old Belgian will thus make his debut in the top category.
