Fabio Leimer will test the Sauber in Abu Dhabi in November

Fabio Leimer will join the Sauber team at the Abu Dhabi young driver test later this year.
The 22-year-old driver will join the Swiss team's reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez for the test to be held on 15-17 November after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“We are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to Fabio,” said Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn. “Testing opportunities for young drivers today are extremely limited, and it's always exciting to see how they approach it with all the complexity of a Formula 1.”

Swiss driver Leimer competed with Rapax in the GP2 Series during the 2011 season finishing in 14th position after a victory and a podium.

“When I found out that I will definitely take part in the Formula 1 test for the first time I realized what this actually means,” said Leimer. “For a racing driver, of course, the dream is always Formula 1 and this dream is coming true now. It's almost unbelievable.”

“Also not many Swiss drivers have ever had the chance to test for the Sauber F1 team. This is why it is an even more special honor for me to be able to do my first F1 laps with a Swiss team.”

“I am very much looking forward to this challenge and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this possible.”
