F3 | Race 2 was enough for Mick Schumacher to become champion: nothing to be done for Ticktum
The German finishes the race in second place behind Vips
Mick Schumacher became champion of the Formula 3 European Championship thanks to the second place in Race 2 obtained at Hockenheim. The German from Prema thus completed the comeback thanks to the memorable hat-trick obtained at the Nurburgring and Zeltweg's continuity of results. The first match point this morning in Race 1 was not taken by the German, who after an accident on the first lap with Armstrong was unable to do better than twelfth position, while Ticktum, driver of the Red Bull junior team, nibbled away a few points by finishing in fifth position in the race won by Guan Yu Zhou.
In Race 2 things went diametrically opposite: Schumacher started second behind the Estonian Vips, while Ticktum had problems in qualifying and did not go beyond fifteenth place on the starting grid. The race proceeds normally, except for an accident at the start between Ahmed, Fenestraz and Hanses. Schumi managed to keep up with Vips in the early stages of the race, but after a mistake in turn 1 he decided to keep his distance, finishing in second place. Nice race from Ticktum, who recovered up to seventh position. The son of the great Michael therefore became European Formula 3 champion, an exceptional result for him and Prema. Now we need to see what the future holds for the German, with the doors of Formula 2 appearing to be increasingly wide open.
