F1 | Zanardi: transferred to a specialist neuro-rehabilitation center [VIDEO]

The Santa Maria alle Scotte Polyclinic of Siena, through a medical bulletin, announced that today Alex Zanardi was discharged from hospital and transferred to a specialist functional recovery and rehabilitation center (specifically, Villa Beretta di Costa Masnaga in Lecco , ed.). For more than a month, the former Formula 1 driver and para-cycling champion had been hospitalized in intensive care after the terrible hand bike accident and underwent three surgeries to reduce the serious maxillofacial head trauma.

“The health management of the Sienese university hospital communicates that the sedation-analgesia program to which the athlete Alex Zanardi was subjected, hospitalized in the DEA Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit and Transplants since June 19th, has concluded in recent days. After the suspension of sedation, the normality of the cardio-respiratory and metabolic parameters, the stability of the general clinical conditions and the neurological picture allowed the transfer of the sample to a specialist center for functional recovery and rehabilitation. Alex Zanardi was therefore transferred today to another facility."

«Our professionals – states the general director of the Aou Senese Valtere Giovannini – they remain available to this extraordinary person and his family for the further phases of clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic development, as always happens in these cases. I sincerely thank the multidisciplinary team that took care of Zanardi, deploying great professionalism, recognized nationally and beyond. The athlete spent over a month in our hospital: he underwent three delicate surgical operations and showed a path of stability in his clinical conditions and vital parameters which allowed the reduction and suspension of sedation, and the consequent possibility of be able to be transferred to a facility for the necessary neuro-rehabilitation. I conclude by sending a big hug to Alex's family, who has demonstrated extraordinary strength: a precious gift that will have to be a fundamental travel companion on the new path that begins today."

Come on Alex!
