F1 | Wurz defends the Halo: “People will eventually get used to it”

In an interview given to the newspaper Der Standard, Alexander Wurz spoke about the recent controversies surrounding the Halo system, highlighting how the FIA is required to safeguard the safety of drivers on the track. According to the Austrian, in fact, there is no way that a device of this type is evaluated based on beauty or aesthetics, but rather an evaluation must be made based on its potential. The Halo is the future of the sport and the former Williams driver is convinced that people will soon get used to it.

Here are the words of Alexander Wurz: “It is not possible that in a modern and technological society like today's, the FIA allows itself to ignore safety developments based on the impression of enthusiasts. It is not possible to block this process just because people don't like the Halo aesthetically. Society has changed and a global industry must do everything humanly possible to prevent people from being hurt or killed. If the sport is really exciting, with several winners and a close fight, 99,9% of viewers will not care whether there is a safety device or not. In the future, if we ensure the safety of the cars, we will be able to fly through Munich at 400 or 450 km/h, and we won't need a red flag because of the rain."
