F1 | Wolff on Hamilton's renewal: "We haven't discussed it yet"
On the deal he added: "Lewis can count on opportunities, but the same goes for us"
In a chat given to the columns of Auto Motor Und Sport, Toto Wolff spoke about the market rumors surrounding the figure of Lewis Hamilton, underlining how the Englishman and Mercedes have not yet discussed a possible contract renewal for the 2021 season.
According to what was declared by the Austrian manager, currently CEO of Mercedes AMG Petronas, Hamilton and the management will sit around a table as soon as they return from the winter break, presumably in mid-February, an aspect which effectively denies the numerous rumors and figures that have circulated in recent weeks.
“The last time we met was for the Christmas party,” said Toto Wolff. “We talked about the future, but nothing that in-depth. From then on I only heard from Lewis via WhatsApp. We both gave ourselves a break and when we resume, which is in February, we will discuss everything."
On the negotiation he added: “Lewis is a top-level rider and always has options, but the same goes for us. As long as we build a fast car we will always be in an advantageous situation when it comes to the choice of drivers. Lewis wants to drive the fastest car on the grid and we want the best driver. We'll see what to do."
