F1| Wolff: “No predictions for the race”
The Mercedes team manager is confident of the car's potential, despite the new rules
The team manager of German team, winner of the 2016 constructors' and drivers' titles, declared that it did not want to make predictions regarding the 2017 season, although it admitted that the margins had narrowed between Mercedes, Ferrari e Red Bull, after the new rules.
This week, with the grand prize of Melbourne a new era begins for formula 1, following changes to aerodynamics and tires, designed to make the cars faster, more difficult to drive and apparently more aggressive. However, the German company is convinced that it has done everything necessary to maintain its dominance.
“We have faced the challenge of the new regulations with determination”Said Wolff a crash.net, “We have been the strongest in the last three years with the stable rules but no team has managed to maintain success after such a radical change in the regulations. However, a challenge like this is only good for the team.".
According to the Austrian manager, there is no need to worry too much, as everyone starts from scratch: “With the new rules, we all start from the same place; this may mean there may be opportunities, but also risks for each team on the grid. To understand how unpredictable Formula 1 can be, just look at 2009 with Brawn winning the constructors' title, after having been on the brink of extinction!”.
After i test brilliant from Ferrari, Wolff remains confident in Mercedes' potential, but does not want to make any predictions for Sunday's race:
“We have a strong respect for each of our rivals and we respect each team that tries to find the key to the problem, as within them there are intelligent people, the best in this field. We did our best during the winter and even if we weren't the fastest in the tests, it's just a matter of understanding why and what to do to improve. Only when the checkered flag waves will the chatter stop...".
