F1 | Wolff and Russia: “Hamilton had a difficult weekend, he wasn't comfortable with him”
While his teammate is on the right path: "We expected Valtteri to grow race after race and he confirmed the predictions on the field"
As we know the weekend of Russian Grand Prix was not the best in the career of Lewis Hamilton. It is not yet known what the real problems behind the Englishman's performance were, but Toto Wolff knows that there will be work to be done immediately, with the Spanish GP: " Barcelona it will be interesting: because in the winter tests we weren't flawless,” commented the Austrian as reported by Motorsport.com. “It was a difficult weekend, we lacked performance on Friday, but the engineers made the right choices, confirmed by the good pace on Saturday and Sunday. The feeling is that a season awaits us in which it will be necessary to work all day, every day,” he continued.
"Lewis had a difficult weekend in both qualifying and the race. We spent a lot of time trying to understand what went wrong and why he didn't feel comfortable with the car. But there are no magic wands which allow you to understand everything in a short time, a lot of work and attention to detail is needed. We must provide Hamilton with the tools he needs to express himself at his best in the next races, for us it is a fundamental objective,” he declared.
Toto Wolff then commented on the beautiful performance of Valtteri Bottas, who won his first victory in Mercedes after only 3 races of "study and analysis" of the single-seater: "We expected growth of Valtteri race after race and he confirmed the predictions on the field, culminating with an exceptional performance in Sochi, in his fourth Grand Prix at the wheel of a Mercedes. He is undoubtedly on the right path,” he continued.
“Barcelona will be an interesting race as our pre-season tests in Montmelò were not flawless,” concluded Wolff.
