F1 | Wolff doubtful about the impact of the new rules

The team principal of the team that won the 2018 constructors' and drivers' championship admitted to having some doubts about this year's rule change.

The 2019 regulation is aimed at improving overtaking, reducing the turbulence that drivers feel when slipstreaming. The teams were forced to make the cars' front wings simpler and the rear wings wider. This decision was well supported the moment it was announced, but now Toto wolff, doubts this change will affect racing that much.

The Austrian believes the teams have found a way to redirect the airflow around the car again, negating the changes made to the wings.

“At the moment it's very difficult for the cars to follow each other because you lose aerodynamic load, the tires lose grip and therefore overtaking is really bad. If we look for example at the junior categories, such as Formula 2, there are actually some fantastic races. I can get close. The goal was to take away some aerodynamics and direct the airflow over the top of the car. However, there are two thousand aerodynamicists fighting in all the teams and I think we have found the solution to circulate the air around the car. So there won't be this big change."
