F1 | Williams, Russell on the Monte Carlo weekend: "We can do something magical"

For George Russell and Williams, Monte Carlo could be a very important weekend. The Briton, interviewed by the media during the usual press conference, in this case on Wednesday given where we are, wanted to underline the competitiveness shown on the flying lap, unlike what happens in the race, when the FW43B completely loses the pace seen on the day before (evidently it still has big problems with the fuel load, ed.) and for this reason we only find it in front of the Haas (and not always). According to the Englishman, therefore, the Monte Carlo qualifications, already very important in themselves, could prove fundamental for the Grove team, also to try to score some points.

“Our performances on Saturday are going well, and here in Monte Carlo it will matter more than ever to qualify well – Russell said. I don't know how our car will behave on the streets of the Principality, at the moment I think we are in eighth or ninth place in terms of race pace, but we hope to find a bit of magic as we did on some occasions on Saturday. You have to gain a couple of tenths, which on this track means finishing ninth instead of fifteenth. I love this place: in 2019 it was the first race where I managed to behave well with the car, it was exciting to touch the walls, sometimes you forget they are there."

“I only managed to take a look at the circuit this morning: we went over some things with the engineers, we thought about the progress made from the 2019 race up until today. It was only my sixth race in Formula 1, and we as a group managed to improve a lot, we had a difficult car to drive, so I'm happy with the work we've done and it would be fantastic to go out there this weekend and deliver a stellar performance."
