F1 | Williams, Kubica and the no to Ferrari: "It's difficult to refuse certain offers, but I'm happy with the decision made"

2019 could have given a Robert Kubica the possibility of landing in Ferrari as development driver, after the respective moves of Antonio Giovinazzi to Alfa Romeo Sauber and Daniil Kvyat to Toro Rosso, with the Pole ultimately choosing to return to the Circus on a permanent basis by accepting Williams' proposal.

In fact, the Grove team has decided to promote Kubica to starting driver for the new season, where he will share the garage with the reigning Formula 2 champion George Russell.

"I knew what I wanted, but from the outside the choices seem more and more complicated – the Pole underlined to Autosport -. I had some very interesting opportunities that weren't easy to say no to. But in the end I am a racing driver, even if I haven't competed in races for a long time, but in the end this mentality prevailed. I am happy to have made this choice, because it represents a great challenge for the signed".

Kubica then added: “It's not easy becoming a Formula One driver, convincing people you can measure up. You have to have great strength to do it, like it happened to me last year and finally I think I have the energy to do it again. I'm not worried or scared by this challenge, I think it can work. I have a great opportunity after having faced a long journey."

Analyzing the differences between test driver and official driver he said: “When you drive a single-seater you have to give important feedback, without risking anything. Now, however, I have to change this approach, as I will have to work harder for the team, as I was in the past, but also for myself. I will have to focus on various things that will be useful when I get back to racing. It will be a different approach".
