F1 | Whiting cuts short on T-Wings and rear fins: “I think they will be abolished in 2018”

In an interview given during the press conference to present the next Australian Grand Prix, Charlie Whiting commented on the new aerodynamic appendages studied by the teams for this year's cars, underlining how the "t-wings" and the "sharks fins” could be abolished starting from next season.

According to what was reported by the current Technical Delegate of the FIA, in fact, these appendages inserted in the rear area of the cars have not found the right success among enthusiasts, especially with regards to the visual impact, and for this very reason the abolition will be studied starting from the next championship.

“There is the possibility of a ban starting from 2018”, Charlie Whiting declared to the international press present in Melbourne. “People find these appendages unpleasant. I have nothing against these solutions, but we must look to the enthusiasts".

As regards the championship that is about to open, however, the Englishman ruled out a possible ban during the current season, underlining how every maneuver will be studied with a view to 2018: “We knew about the possibility of these solutions, but we hadn't fully foreseen their layout, just as we hadn't foreseen people's reactions. In any case, we will only evaluate what to do for 2018."
