F1 | Bad weekend for Renault, Hulkenberg: “The strategy didn't work”

Weekend to forget for Renault, which finished outside the points in Sochi with both drivers: Hulkenberg finished twelfth, Sainz even seventeenth. A negative result obtained after some forebodings, in fact on Friday the car didn't go very well despite the drivers' optimism and in qualifying they struggled to get to Q2. The consequence was an anonymous race for the French team.

“Unfortunately we were not able to get the most out of our strategy – Hulkenberg said. We had a clean and incident-free race, and it was good to be in seventh place for so many laps, but we were unable to recover positions after the pit stop. We tried to give our best with the alternative strategy, but we weren't able to do it."

“I have mixed feelings after today – Sainz admitted. I got off to a very good start on the Soft and overtook a couple of cars on the HyperSoft later. However I was hit by a Williams in turn 2 and I no longer had any feeling with the car, having the bottom and one side of the car damaged, making my driving very difficult. I stayed on the track trying to help the team with strategy, braking the other cars in the middle of the pack as much as possible, but today they were out of reach for us. When I jumped out of the car at the end of the race I saw the damage I had sustained. It's time to prepare for Japan."
