F1 | Villeneuve votes in favor of Leclerc: "he doesn't go to Ferrari to be Bottas"

Interviewed by Sky Sport on the promotion of Charles Leclerc, Jacques Villeneuve believes that the Monegasque did not arrive at Ferrari to carry on the role of squire. According to the former Canadian driver, in fact, the new standard bearer of the Red team will play all his cards in 2019, not being satisfied with the role of second driver 'à la Bottas'.

Leclerc's personality, in fact, is extremely different from that of the Finn, which is why it will be reasonable to expect a more combative Monegasque, especially from mid-season onwards.

As regards the world championship, however, Villeneuve believes that this is perhaps too ambitious a goal, given that the former Alfa Romeo Sauber team driver will have to allow himself a short apprenticeship period.

Here are the words of Jacques Villeneuve: “It will be difficult for Leclerc to fight for the world championship, given that he will need some adaptation races, but the championship is made up of twenty-one rounds, so who knows. Furthermore, in this new experience, he will have Jock Clear at his side, a person of an important technical caliber, which is why he will have all the support necessary to succeed in this undertaking".

“To compete for the world championship he would need a dominant Red, but one thing is certain: he won't come to Maranello to be Bottas”he concluded.
