F1 | Villeneuve on defensive maneuvers: “There are too many rules and judgements”

Jacques Villeneuve criticized the rules that do not allow drivers to duel freely on the track with the sound of doorbells. According to what was declared by the 1997 World Champion, today the action on the track is penalized by the rules and decisions made by the commissioners, an aspect that strongly penalizes the authenticity of the show.

“Today there is action on the track, together with rules and decisions, but there are too many rules and too many judgements”, said Jacques Villeneve. “Even the smallest incident is analyzed. It was much simpler when everything was left to the pilots, except in the most extreme cases. Then there was much less hassle on the track."

“If you were annoyed by a driver and if he did it on purpose, you could just take it back on the next lap,” he continued. “Now these gestures are the most repressed. In the past, drivers didn't block each other on the straights. The first to do these things was Jarno Trulli and later Michael Schumacher."
