F1 | Villeneuve critical: “The race pace in Monaco was grotesque”

A few days before leaving for Montreal, scene of the next Canadian Grand Prix, Jacques Villeneuve returned to talk about the last race in the Principality, underlining how the events of the last world event were "grotesque and deplorable".

According to the 1997 World Champion, in fact, Pirelli provided the teams with a product that was not up to par, forcing the drivers to race without any attack. Villeneuve, obviously, is not referring to overtaking, which is impossible in the narrow streets of the Principality, but to the drivers' driving itself, which appeared bland and too conservative. Something that, according to the Canadian, is bad for Formula 1.

Here are the words of Jacques Villeneuve: “The last race in Monaco was a drag for the drivers on the track, with the latter avoiding any type of competition. The race was incredibly slow and the single-seaters were only ten seconds faster than the Formula Renaults, cars with 200 horsepower. An absolutely grotesque thing."

“Pirelli must provide different products, certainly more efficient and long-lasting”, he added. “It's deplorable to watch all these drivers limit their attacks to preserve their tyres. We need lively competition and fewer restrictions."
