F1 | Vettel on the Aston Martin choice: “Stroll's goals are aligned with mine”

2021 will mark a new stage in Sebastian Vettel's professional career. In fact, the German, having concluded at the end of the year the experience in Ferrari which began in 2015 which saw him obtain 12 pole positions and 14 victories (third driver in the history of Maranello in terms of number of successes, ed.), will land in Aston Martin. An ambitious project from the glorious British brand that will take Racing Point's place on the grid.

Vettel, interviewed by Sport Bild, spoke about the reasons that encouraged him to choose Aston Martin: “It takes ambition and goals, and the goals Lawrence Stroll has are aligned with mine. This unites us. He has clear ideas about what he wants to achieve and I was very impressed. But it is clear that there will not be giant steps immediately. I am not yet involved with Racing Point or taking part in meetings to plan the new car. I'm not even allowed to do that, I'm still a Ferrari employee".

For the four-time world champion, however, this situation is different from the one that saw Michael Schumacher as protagonist in Mercedes: “They cannot be compared. First because it is a different period, second because the team has different requirements. But above all Michael was of a different age when he arrived at Mercedes and before that he had taken a three-year break. I'm in the middle of everything and I'm just changing teams".
