Lewis Hamilton is now one step away from yet another record. In fact, by triumphing tomorrow in Sochi, an objective certainly within the reach of the Mercedes standard bearer who will start from pole position, the Englishman would equal Michael Schumacher's 91 career victories. Extraordinary numbers that certify the absolute value of the reigning world champion who is rewriting the history of Formula One.

Sebastian Vettel expressed his point of view on the subject, with the German not sparing compliments on Hamilton even though the Englishman could reach his idol's record.

"It has always been a number that seemed impossible to reach – admitted Vettel, discussing with the media in Sochi – Obviously, looking at the last few years and Lewis' records, he has gotten closer and closer. It's just a matter of time, on one hand I'll be sad because Michael is still my hero. But on the other hand I would be very happy for Lewis. I think he deserves all the success that he has had in recent years and that he will have this year and the next. I don't know if he will continue in Formula 1, but I assume he will".

But has Vettel himself, who with 53 victories under his belt is the third most successful driver in Formula One behind Schumacher and Hamilton, ever thought he could aspire to this record? A question to which the current Ferrari standard bearer, who will be an Aston Martin driver from next year, responded as follows: “As for me, I don't know. Obviously I'm far away now but like I said, it's always been one of those numbers that seemed impossible until someone came along and surpassed it".
