F1 | Vettel: “Boring races? They can happen, people have to deal with it."
In 2017 there was a 49% drop in overtaking compared to last season
The 2017 season, which closed its doors last November 26th with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held on Yas Marina Tour, recorded a significant drop in overtaking, also due to the new technical regulations, of 49% compared to the previous year. We went from 866 seen on track in 2016 to just 435 in the 2017 championship.
When asked about the matter, Sebastian Vettel said: “It is a fact that overtaking has become more difficult this year, especially if you follow a driver who is slower than you. Sometimes it seems impossible to overtake another driver and this causes nervousness, but then when you manage to get the better of your direct rival you feel a pleasant sensation".
"In a nutshell what I want to say is that the Nobody has to give it to you as a gift, but you have to know how to conquer it”, underlined Vettel.
Furthermore, on the age-old issue of boring races, devoid of interesting ideas, Ferrari's German standard bearer said: “People should accept rides like that too. If uninspiring races happen then surely other exciting things will happen".
