F1 | Mercedes veto for reverse grid races on double weekends

FIA and Liberty Media are thinking about some changes to make the 2020 Formula One season less obvious which should, the conditional is a must while waiting for the official announcement, open its doors on July 5th with the Austrian Grand Prix at Red Bull Ring.

Among the various options proposed in recent days during the World Council, which sanctioned some measures in view of the next championships such as the remodulation of the budget cap, there is also the hypothesis of reversed grid races (based on the reversed championship order) in the second weekend which will be held on the same track and which would replace the classic battle for pole position on Saturday. The duration would be 30 minutes. The penalties would instead be served in the official race on Sunday.

According to what was reported by Autosport, almost all the teams would approve this scenario, including Ferrari, while Mercedes would be opposed. According to the British newspaper, the new calendar will be made official tomorrow, while a meeting of the F1 sports working group should be held on Wednesday during which the various representatives of the teams will resolve their definitive reservations about the inverted grid races
