F1 | Verstappen slams calendar: “We need more efficient geographical planning”

F1 Verstappen – Max Verstappen recently highlighted the need to rethink the Formula 1 calendar, calling for less travel and better management of time zones. With the paddock preparing to tackle two triplets of races to conclude the season, travel difficulties have become a central issue, and the Dutchman is suggesting a more geographically efficient schedule.

The reigning world champion highlighted the growing stress on those working in the sport, especially with Formula 1 expanding to 24 grands prix and six sprint races this year. “I’ve always said there are a lot of races on the calendar, but for me the real problem is the travelling across different time zones,” said Verstappen. The Red Bull driver then highlighted the difficulties of the upcoming races, explaining how the journey from Las Vegas to Doha presents a significant challenge: “Between Las Vegas and Qatar you’re basically flying to the other side of the world. It could improve the organisation if the triplets were closer together geographically. It would make more sense.”

Verstappen, new war with the FIA over the calendar?

A more careful management of distances, according to Verstappen, would allow for a more logical and less tiring organization. With the calendar becoming increasingly crowded towards the end of the season, Verstappen expressed concern about the impact of accumulated fatigue, noting that long flights so close to the end of the year could increase the risk of illness: “The flight from Las Vegas to Qatar is long, but after Qatar you fly to Abu Dhabi and that is fine. However, at the end of the season, when you are tired, you risk getting sick, and taking long trips does not help.”

Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll also shared Verstappen's opinion, adding that it would be possible to improve the organisation of the races by better connecting them geographically: "I think we could do a better job, as Max said, by connecting the races in a more logical way between Asia, America and the Middle East". A clear and direct point of view, but one that will have to be discussed with Liberty Media and the FIA, who so far have not been too inclined to take on board the suggestions of drivers and insiders.
