F1 | Verstappen: “Racing Point will never fight for the title”
"If you copy you will always be behind"
Controversy had already begun in the first tests in Barcelona over the clear progress made by Racing Point compared to 2019, to the point of being nicknamed “Pink Mercedes”. Now, after three races held, the British team is in third place jointly with McLaren in the constructors' championship. In the Hungarian Grand Prix we saw the full potential of the Mercedes-powered single-seater, which is still under examination after complaint made by Renault due to the fact that the Racing Point is a clear copy of the Mercedes W10, not only in design.
Max Verstappen is sure of this who, interviewed after the race which ended in second place, when asked if they will have to fear another rival in the championship, replied bluntly:
“No, they will never be fighting for the title – he declared to GPblog.com-compared to Mercedes, they are behind. So if you copy, you will always be behind.”
