F1 | Verstappen: “I couldn't sleep anymore”

Last year was a difficult season for the driver Red Bull, to the point of spending sleepless nights, as stated by the Dutchman himself.

Out of 20 grand prix, Max Verstappen he retired seven times (even five in the space of seven races):

“It's not nice, and sometimes you have nights where you can't sleep or you're restless or disappointed”, said Verstappen, interviewed by Guardian.

But despite the problems, the young man insists he has been able to move forward easily.

“I never even thought about the mental side of things because I never had any problems. If you are a little weak in your head, maybe you can train your mind, but it will never be your strong point. Many people ask: 'What do you need mentally to be successful in F1?' I say, “What do you mean mentally? I have fun and drive as fast as I can. But so many people think your psychology is such a big thing. For me, it's not necessary.".

Verstappen has already been tipped as a future world champion even at 20 years old. However, last year he finished sixth in the drivers' standings, a position he desperately wants to improve on.

“I always think that if I have the right car, the fastest car, then I can become world champion. But you need to have that car and so far I haven't had the fastest package.".And the current world champion Lewis Hamilton seems to share this belief.

“There is a potential world champion in Max and he will only get stronger with age. He has a lot of talent and has a long way to go but these victories, these experiences, add to his great potential. I can't wait to fight with him.".
