F1 | Vasseur on the choice not to race: “It would have been scandalous to race”

Interviewed by the newspaper Blick, Frederic Vasseur commented on the choice not to contest the Australian Grand Prix, the inaugural event of the 2020 Formula 1 world championship, underlining how the teams' decision was absolutely “correct and in line with the problems the world is facing”.

Alfa Romeo, we remember, took a stand against holding the race in Australia, aligning itself with the decision of Ferrari, McLaren and Renault. A difficult choice, but absolutely necessary due to the global contagion related to Coronavirus.

“It's not the start we all expected, but in just two weeks the situation has gotten worse all over the world,” added Frederic Vasseur. “The number of deaths is constantly increasing and Formula 1 is not the center of the world. We must respect the extraordinary state of emergency that we are experiencing on all continents. Any other decision would have been scandalous."
