F1 | The 2018 World Cup calendar has been made official: France and Germany return

In a meeting today, held in Geneva, the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA has approved the Formula One calendar for the 2018 season. The next world championship will be made up of 21 events, thus equaling the highest number of races established in 2016.

Among the scheduled GPs there are two welcome returns: France and Germany, whose races will be held on the Paul Ricard tracks (recently used by F1 single-seaters for Pirelli tests, but which was missing from the calendar since 1990) and Hockenheim, whose last edition took place last year.

"We are happy to have the French and German GPs in 2018 – declared Chase Carey, F1 president – France was one of the seven races that made up the first world championship in 1950 and is now returning after a decade". The last time a French circuit hosted a Formula One race dates back to 2008 (Magny-Cours).

"The number of races increased by one compared to the current season – continues Carey – We have received numerous requests from those wishing to host a Formula One GP. We are focusing all our efforts on ensuring that each race becomes a special event, so that the fans, those involved in our most important projects, can enjoy a unique and unforgettable experience. If we manage to do this the whole Formula One family will be able to benefit from it".

"We have worked hard to reconcile the various appointments on the calendars – underlined Jean Todt, president of the FIA – We are happy to return to host the French and German Grands Prix".

The 2018 season will open its doors with the Australian Grand Prix scheduled for March 25th. The Baku event has been brought forward and will be held at the end of April. The Sochi event has been postponed to September 30th. The Paul Ricard and Hockenheim races will take place on 24 June and 22 July. Below is the complete list of GPs.
