Through an official note, the Force India announced the hiring as the third driver of Nicholas latifi. The 22-year-old Canadian beat the competition from the most popular George Russell, who had already participated with the Indian team in the FP1 in Brazil and Abu Dhabi last year. Latifi was test driver for the 2016 and 2017 seasons Renault and took part in the tests held last August in Hungary; in the last championship of formula 2 he came 5th with the DAMS team, also achieving a success at Silverstone.

The owner of Force India, Vijay Mallya, instead welcomed Latifi like this: “Nicholas joins us after a good season in Formula 2 and strengthens our driver development programme.
