F1 | Official: Kevin Magnussen returns to Haas!
The Dane replaces Nikita Mazepin and has signed a multi-year contract
With an official statement, Haas announced the return of Kevin Magnussen. The Danish driver, in the US team from 2017 to 2020, takes the place of Nikita Mazepin, signing a multi-year contract. The former McLaren will already be on track in the Bahrain tests which will begin tomorrow together with Mick Schumacher and Pietro Fittipaldi. The twenty-nine-year-old driver boasts 119 appearances in Formula 1, with his debut podium in 2014 with the Woking team. After the year of stopping in 2015, in 2016 he moved to Renault, but he remained there for only one season before arriving at Haas, with which he raced 79 times, and his last race was in Abu Dhabi in 2020.
His career continued in 2021 by winning a race in IMSA with Chip Ganassi, also scoring four more podiums. He then made his debut in the 24 Hours of Le Mans competing with High Class Racing, in LMP2 together with his father Jan, and was also the protagonist in an IndyCar race for McLaren at Road America. Magnussen beat off very strong competition, with Giovinazzi and Hulkenberg also vying for a seat, while Fittipaldi never appears to have been considered. Haas preferred a driver who is still young, but already experienced and who above all knows the environment.
