F1 | Official: the Bahrain GP will take place behind closed doors

After suspending the sale of tickets for the Grand Prix, the Bahraini government, through a press release published this morning, declared that the event will be held behind closed doors.

“After consultation with our international partners and the Kingdom's National Health Taskforce, Bahrain has made the decision to host the Bahrain Grand Prix but exclusively for participants only. As a nation that hosts Formula 1, ensuring the well-being of supporters and participants is a huge responsibility. Given the continued spread of Covid-19 globally, holding a major sporting event open to the public and allowing thousands of international travelers and local fans to interact in close proximity would not be the right thing to do at this time. However, to ensure that neither the sport nor its supporters are unduly involved, the race weekend will be held as a televised event. We know how disappointed many will be by this news, especially those who were planning to attend the event, but safety must remain our top priority."
