F1 | Toro Rosso, Sainz: “I'm not surprised by my result”

Difficult qualifying for the drivers of the Italian team with Carlos Sainz who will start in fourteenth position, followed by his new teammate, Pierre Gasly.

The Spanish driver declared that he was not surprised to find himself so far behind on the starting grid, given that he had had difficulties throughout the weekend:

“I'm not surprised to find myself fourteenth because that's more or less the position we found ourselves in over the weekend. Surely we have to check something because we are too far away. Before coming here, I expected that we would do better but the updates are not working as we expected, at least for now. Having said that, it's also true that we haven't toured much so we have to work hard. We usually improve in the race, so I hope we can gain some positions. If it rains, as we saw in Singapore, anything can happen so I would like to be able to race in the wet. If not, we will keep our heads down and try to give our best.".

Just behind the new arrival at Toro Rosso, Pierre Gasly, who nevertheless said he was satisfied:

“I think today was a positive day and I'm happy, the first qualifying in Formula 1 is always a special moment and something I've been waiting for for a long time! I tried to give my best and we made good progress between FP3 and qualifying. I felt good in the car in Q1 and Q2, I continued to learn and I have to say I was satisfied with my result. I can't wait for tomorrow, the first race in Formula 1 is a moment I dreamed of as a child. You never know what can happen here but if it were to rain, I'm confident I can do well given the weather in FP1 and it would make everything more exciting.".
