F1 | Toro Rosso, Sainz: “I haven't seen Grosjean”

Complicated day for Scuderia Toro Rosso on the Montreal track. Despite an excellent start, Carlos Sainz left the scene at turn three due to a heavy contact with Romain Grosjean's Haas. A crash that subsequently forced Felipe Massa to retire as well, although he was not to blame for the huge collision. A different story however for Daniil Kvyat: the Russian, author of a good race despite the drive through, had to retire his STR12 due to a problem during the last pit stop.

Here are the words of Daniil Kvyat: “It was a really disappointing day. Our problems started already during the formation lap, when my engine stalled and I should have caught up with all the other cars before the Safety Car line, but I was unable to do so and so I was given a penalty… Despite this we were fighting for P9, because my pace today was great! Unfortunately, during my pit stop, we had a problem and then we retired… after losing so much time in the pits it was too late for anything. Today I did everything I could, but the irritating thing is that every time we show a good pace something happens or something goes wrong... it's very frustrating, we deserved more today."

Here are Carlos Sainz's impressions: “What a difficult start: my sprint was good and I was in P12 while trying to overtake Fernando on the outside of Turn 2… He had great traction coming out of that corner, so I concentrated on my line to try and attack it on the inside of the next bend when, suddenly, I touched a Haas that was on my right... I must say that I didn't really see it, due to a blind spot in my mirrors, I didn't really know it was there. If I had noticed his presence, I would naturally have been more attentive and given him space. Once we touched, I was simply a passenger: I crashed into the protections and unfortunately my race ended there. I would like to apologize, especially to Felipe who was involved... I couldn't do anything to avoid it. It was a big blow, but I'm fine. Unfortunately, the whole weekend was a bit difficult for us, starting from not being able to lap in FP1, through yesterday's qualifying and today's accident. But now it's time to focus on Baku. Luckily, we have 20 races in the Formula 1 calendar to forget about this weekend!”
