F1 | Toro Rosso, Sainz: “Eighth position is a satisfactory result”

Points finish for Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat in the Australian Grand Prix, the opening round of the 2017 Formula One World Championship. The “Torelli” finished the Albert Park race in eighth and ninth position, starting this 2017 World Cup in the best possible way.

Here are the words of Carlos Sainz: “A complicated race! Obviously, with this new generation of cars, we didn't really know what to expect, but eighth place is a satisfying result, which I'm happy about. It's a shame that we lost position to Perez immediately after the pit stop. I struggled after letting Daniil and the two Mercedes pass, as my tire temperatures dropped a bit and it took me some time to find my rhythm again. In the final stages of the race I was fast and was catching up with the Force India, almost to the point of attempting an overtaking: if only there had been a few more laps, I could have tried. This race weekend has given confidence to the whole team: getting both cars into Q3 and crossing the finish line with a double points finish is a really good start and now we need to make sure we continue like this."

Here are Daniil Kvyat's impressions: “What a great race! It was a shame that I had to make an extra stop during the last laps, to recharge the air in my car... If it hadn't been for this, seventh position would have been within my reach: we were fighting to get it! The team did a fantastic job all weekend and I'm very happy - congratulations everyone! Now we have to keep pushing and fight for more points. Physically it wasn't an easy race, but I felt good the entire race. I have to thank my personal trainer: we worked very well during the whole winter! All in all, this is a good way to start the season: we showed good pace and got both cars into the points. Now we can start preparing for China, we can be satisfied with ourselves!”.
