F1 | Toro Rosso, Kvyat: “I couldn't avoid Alonso”

Bad day for Toro Rosso on the Red Bull Ring track. Despite the good qualifying on Saturday, Carlos Sainz was slowed down by some engine problems which forced him to retire right at the end of the race. Different story, however, for Danill Kvyat: the Russian, author of a good start, hit Alonso at the first corner, ruining his race after just a few metres. It should be noted that Kvyat will pay a penalty on the starting grid of the British Grand Prix.

Here are the words of Daniil Kvyat: “It wasn't the race we were hoping for. The start had been good, although I suddenly found myself dodging my teammate. Then I couldn't see much of what was happening in front of me; I think Verstappen also had a problem, Alonso saw it - I didn't - and moved on, while I lost all my references. I tried to do everything I could, but unfortunately I couldn't avoid it. It's something that disturbs me and certainly others too, but these things happen to all riders. Now I just need a cold shower to move on."

Here are Carlos Sainz's impressions: “What a great shame! Right from the start we had a problem with the engine, I felt it running out of steam during the first ten laps, which is why I dropped from ninth to sixteenth position. We did everything we could to solve the problem and for 15 laps I fiddled with the various controls to try to make the car work."

“Unfortunately, this ultimately did not happen and the problems were persistent and we had to withdraw the car” added the Spaniard from Toro Rosso. “It's disappointing and certainly not what we needed, especially as we could have fought for the points today. Overall, this is a harsh conclusion to what I would have described as a good weekend: yesterday's qualifying was good and I was fighting for points before that problem, so there are some positives to focus on."
