F1 | Toro Rosso, Honda confirms the partnership with IHI for the development of the turbocharger
The common goal will be performance growth in 2019
With a press release issued this morning, Honda confirmed the extension of the partnership with IHI, the Japanese company that manufactures turbos, underlining how the common objective is the growth of performance during 2019.
Important news that confirms the line moved by Honda over the last year, i.e. gradual growth without daring changes in progress. The agreement, signed at the end of 2013, has been going on for four seasons, i.e. since Honda entered Formula 1, and will continue for the next three years on an exclusive basis.
The Japanese brand and Red Bull, therefore, will be able to count on a reliable partner who knows perfectly how the Japanese power unit works, an aspect of vital importance from a development perspective.
Here are the words of Yoshinori Kawasaki of IHI: “Thanks to the confirmation of this technical partnership, we hope that the Honda power unit can achieve the best possible performance, while also accelerating the development of the turbocharger. We hope that the engine, using our turbocharger, can return to giving the satisfaction that thrilled motoring fans in the '80s and '90s."
