For a few weeks now, in fact, there have been rumors about a possible divorce from Toro Rosso: the poor results obtained so far, especially when compared to those of teammate Pierre Gasly, have put the Faenza team on guard, already active for a possible change in the running. Those of Robert Kubica, pascal wehrlein e Lando Norris are the names that emerged with the greatest redundancy for the succession of the New Zealand driver.

"I know what my contract says, I'm very confident about the work I'm doing for Toro Rosso behind the scenes to develop the car. I know I have the chance to stay here and do a good job in Formula 1. I don't have the points on the board, but I know it's possible to do it. I think that It would be foolish of me to comment on these rumors".
