F1 | Toro Rosso, Gasly: “The Mexican GP is one of the best of the season, the atmosphere is incredible”

Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley presented the Mexican Grand Prix, the nineteenth round of the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship, on the official Toro Rosso website.

“In last year's Mexican GP I finished thirteenth. It is one of the best races of the season, with an enthusiastic crowd of fans thanks to which the atmosphere is truly incredible and special. Last year, for various reasons, I experienced some difficult moments and practically didn't race until the actual race, I didn't even take part in the qualifying. From a technical point of view it is a complicated race, especially due to the altitude which affects everything: engine, braking, reliability and there is also less grip, so it is more difficult to set the car. Physically, you're aware that the oxygen is thinner, so it's a little tougher than racing at sea level. But the track doesn't have many braking points or corners with high G forces, so from a physical point of view, it's actually not very demanding.".

BRENDON HARTLEY
Drivers' ranking position: 19th (4 points)
Last race placement: 9 °
“Mexico is also a track on which I have already raced in Formula 1. It is another circuit that I really like, where I also won in the WEC. It represents an interesting challenge from an engineering point of view: the air density is very low, because the city is located over two thousand meters above sea level. This means we have less downforce than usual and top speeds are high, with relatively low grip. Altitude is a factor to take into consideration for the drivers, the team and the cars. Cooling is always a big question mark, so the teams will have to take all these elements into consideration when setting up the car. The final sector in the stadium is really interesting from a driver's point of view, really tight and with a great atmosphere: the fans are very passionate and everyone in the city seems to be really involved in the race weekend. I believe we have a good opportunity to do well there, thanks to the various updates we have introduced recently.".
