F1 | Toro Rosso, Gasly: ​​“Fantastic day”

Excellent result for the Frenchman from the Italian team who will start from the third row; his teammate is in more difficulty, Brendon Hartley, eleventh. These are their statements.

Pierre Gasly: “My best qualifying in Formula 1! It's been a fantastic day… since the start of this weekend, the team has worked really hard and it's great to see their efforts pay off. I feel really comfortable with the car, so I'm satisfied. From the first lap of FP1 I felt I was quite fast, but we knew that to get into Q3 we had to put everything together and… we did it! It's really cool! I hope I can make a good start tomorrow: in FP2 we saw that our pace in the long runs is good, so we'll see! Of course, we expect people like Hamilton and Verstappen to catch up in the standings, but I think we will be fighting with Renault and Haas, so we have to work hard tonight to ensure we have a fast car and aim to get some good points in the race tomorrow."

Brendon Hartley: “A little déjà vu from Melbourne: there I missed out on Q2, here in Bahrain I almost made it into Q3! Yesterday we definitely took a step in the right direction, the team brought an update that gained us quite a bit of lap time. Recovering so much performance from an aerodynamic point of view is truly a great job by Toro Rosso. The update was fitted to my car today for the first time and so I was a little more at a disadvantage, but in the end I was so close to Q3 that I can still be happy: I think we all did a great job. Unfortunately, in the first part of qualifying I used three sets of tyres, because I hit a bird and broke my front wing. I don't know how that bird is doing, but my front wing was destroyed! Today we were all very close… it was a shame to have made a small mistake in the last corner!”.
