F1 | Toro Rosso, Gasly: “I was comfortable, ninth position on the grid is excellent”

Two-faced Toro Rosso seen at Interlagos in qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Gasly ranked tenth, but will start ninth due to the penalty given to Ricciardo, while Hartley will be forced to recover from seventeenth position.

“I felt really comfortable in qualifying, it's great to get into Q3 today – admitted a beaming Gasly. I'm happy with my performance and ninth position is a great place to start from tomorrow. The whole session was stressful and exciting at the same time: the rain increased in Q1, but we managed to put everything together and move on to Q2 and then Q3. It was complicated, because in these weather conditions you never know what to expect, you don't know how much grip you will have when entering the corner and how wet it is. But I think in the end we did everything for the best. Even though we made it into the top ten in qualifying, it won't be an easy race because our rivals are very fast. I hope to be able to battle, and I will certainly push hard to score some points tomorrow."

“Today I was two hundredths away from getting into Q2, it was frustrating – Hartley admitted. During my fastest lap I made a mistake, locking the tires at the entrance to turn 8 and flattening the tire a bit. So I lost about a tenth and a half which I paid for by failing to enter the next phase. It was difficult to drive in the rain, but I was constantly updated by the pit wall and my engineers on the track conditions. I'm happy with the behavior of the car and I want to thank the team for the work done in recent days, because after free practice I wasn't very satisfied with the balance. Today the gaps were really closed and it was to our disadvantage. It will be a difficult race for us, but the car goes reasonably well and anything can happen, especially in mixed conditions as the weather forecast announces tomorrow."
