F1 | Toro Rosso, Gasly: “It was a complicated qualifying”

It didn't go very well for Toro Rosso in qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Faenza team ranked with Gasly in twelfth position and Kvyat in fourteenth, but both will start one place higher due to the penalty given to Bottas. The two drivers didn't have a great time with the car, but they are confident in their race pace to try to score points again.

“Compared to the rest of the weekend it was a more complicated qualifying – Gasly admitted. We slipped a lot and we weren't as competitive as we were this morning. Now we need to understand why, but all in all it wasn't bad: tomorrow we'll start from eleventh position and we'll be able to choose which tires to start with. We know we have more degradation with the Soft compound, so hopefully this will play in our favor during the race, considering our long runs yesterday looked strong.”

“In today's qualifying the car wasn't the best and I slipped practically everywhere – Kvyat said. I never found the right grip with the tires and the only decent lap I did was the first in Q2, otherwise I didn't have a good feeling with the car. We hope that things can improve tomorrow: the race is different from qualifying, you can play with the strategy, and if everything goes well there is always the possibility of recovering positions."
