F1 | Toro Rosso, Gasly: “What an incredible day!”

Excellent result for the Italian team which, after only two races with Honda, obtained fourth place thanks to an impeccable race by Pierre Gasly. 10 second penalty for Brendon Hartley following contact with Sergio Perez; he finished in seventeenth position.

Pierre Gasly: “Incredible, what an incredible day! The second race of the season with Toro Rosso and Honda... and we cross the finish line in fourth place! It's just amazing, I'm so happy! A huge thank you to the whole team, because the car was fantastic! I battled with Magnussen and the pace was really consistent. Unfortunately, I saw that both Red Bulls had to stop and when Raikkonen also retired, the team told me that we had the chance to finish in P4: so I gave everything, until the end. The car has been great since the start of this weekend, today I was able to push hard and the pace was great, because I managed to get away from the Haas. I need some time to digest everything, but we will certainly have fun with the team tonight! The start of the race was good: I overtook Ricciardo at the first corner, it was great. Shortly after, when Magnussen overtook me at Turn 1, I knew that I had to overtake him immediately because otherwise I would lose time and it would be difficult to catch him afterwards. Once he overtook me, I was able to keep him behind and push while trying to manage the tyres, which I did quite well. I think the pace was great, I'm just super happy!”.

Brendon Hartley: “A fantastic day for Toro Rosso, but disappointing for me. I managed to make a good start, but then I had a small contact with Perez at turn 4. This episode not only damaged my front wing for the rest of the race, but also cost me a 10-second penalty. Without the latter, we comfortably had the pace to be comfortably in the points, it was a bit frustrating. A big thank you to everyone, to Toro Rosso and Honda, because after Melbourne we experienced a turning point and this bodes well for the next races."
