F1, supplies return from 2017

The F1 Strategy Group has approved a series of changes to the regulations with the aim of improving the spectacle, reducing lap times from five to six seconds, freeing up the choice of tires and reintroducing refueling in the premier category.

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, FIA president Jean Todt and representatives from Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull, Williams and Force India gathered at Biggin Hill on Thursday.

From 2017, measures will be implemented to lower lap times by five or six seconds through improved aerodynamics, wider tires and reduced weight.
Refueling, banned since 2010, will also return, but a maximum limit on fuel will remain. The members of the Strategy Group also approved the increase in the maximum engine speed and sound, two measures that will surely make enthusiasts happy, as well as a more aggressive look for the cars.

From next season, teams will be able to freely choose between two of the four dry compounds available, despite the unfavorable opinion of Pirelli's Paul Hembery.

The proposals will however have to be approved by both the F1 Commission and the World Motorsport Council.

To reduce costs, a proposal has been launched which will be further defined in the coming weeks together with the other teams. The rules on V6 turbo engines will remain unchanged to ensure stability and to allow other competitors to enter F1. Request to use five engines this year rejected.
