F1 | Tony Jardine on the choices made by Alonso in his career: “he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time”

Fernando Alonso's career in Formula One came to an end with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, held last November 25th on the Yas Marina track. The Spaniard, who won two world titles in the Circus, could have achieved greater glory and success if he had made the right choices. As Tony Jardine pointed out in an interview with Sport Express.

"In his head he will look at Formula One and sadly think: 'I could have beaten him, I could have beaten him' – said the English journalist, a well-known face of Sky Sports UK -. But he just needed a decent car, but found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time advised by bad management choices. These decisions started when he was at McLaren".

He then added: "In 2007 he left because he thought Hamilton was getting better treatment than him and with his manager Flavio Briatore he decided to return to Renault. But Renault was no longer competitive at that time and he spent two years at the bottom of the table, a curious and stupid decision. Having gone to Ferrari, he was one step away from victory, but these were frustrating years for him despite showing his incredible talent".

Jardine, concluding with his discussion, said: “And he got lost in Formula One. He is sad not to have him anymore, now he will just be a worker who likes to dabble in sports cars like the Indy 500".
