F1 | Todt critical of the simulation: "I miss private tests on the track"

In a chat given to the microphones of Sky Sports, Jean Todt returned to the topic of simulation and testing on the track, revealing how the FIA's intention is to keep an eye on everything that happens in the factory during the various weekends.

It is no secret, in fact, that today simulation can boast an extremely important place in the development of set-ups and single-seaters, so much so that each team has a factory team that actively works on the simulator (Ferrari, for example, could count on Daniil Kvyat until last season.Ed.).

The President of the FIA, when asked about this aspect of modern Formula 1, said he was displeased with this way of working, underlining how he regrets the times of testing on the track and activities directly in the car. A sore point, much criticized by fans, on which the Federation intends to work for future seasons, thanks also to the help of Liberty Media.

Here are the words of Jean Todt: “Things are changing. sometimes for the good, other times not so good. I feel that today's cars are too reliable and I feel that there is too much that we don't see. The drivers simulate the race circuits during the weekends themselves, without limitations, and this leads me to think that in some cases I miss the past. I miss private tests. Some complained that it was too low on the track, but at least you could see what was happening."

On possible limitations to the simulation he added: “I think there's too much of it and more control over it would be a good thing.”
