F1 | Stoll: “Renault cannot manage four teams”

The entire formula 1 it is in Singapore while waiting to receive very important news for the future of some Motorsport teams. The agreement is still pending McLaren-Renault and that Toro Rosso-Honda, but everything seems close to official in the next few days at Marina Bay. Asked to Jerome Stoll, president of Renault Formula 1, why it was not decided to add a fourth team to those powered by Renault instead of opting to say goodbye to Toro Rosso, replied: “Technically we can't.”

The option, therefore, is to continue working with only three teams and not four: “Otherwise, it would be to the detriment of one of the three teams that we will provide,” he said, quoted by AFP France. “After all, we are not just a supplier to Formula 1, but a real player in the competition. Our problem is the strategy we have put in place to reach the podium by 2020,” he continued.

Precisely linked to this decision there would therefore be the rapprochement of Carlos Sainz from Toro Rosso to Renault: “We talk to everyone. You have to see who is not free, who is completely free at the end of the contract or who is partially free. Esteban Ocon he has a contract with Mercedes,” he explained Stoll, responding to those who expect to see the Frenchman next to Hulkenberg in the next season.

“So, if he arrives, it is for a certain period, and therefore it is interesting to have him for this period… Then, when he could arrive even better… It may make sense or it may even not to have it", he continued, revealing between organizations that perhaps it is actually a strategy of the team to then reach other riders in the future. Obviously all eyes are on 2018, when other drivers whose contracts are expiring will be released. But Stoll said: “Actually, there won't be many places, considering that Hag e Hamilton have re-signed. So those aiming for Mercedes and Ferrari are probably disappointed. We are a good option for very good drivers”, he added.
