F1 | Steiner: “Ferrari suspensions limit us, we cannot make some changes to our car”

Collaboration between Ferrari e Haas has been going on for several years now. Since the US team entered formula 1 in 2016, the Maranello team has always supplied many components to the Americans. In this period the various factories are already working to put down the single-seaters for next season, and Haas would like to further reduce the gap with the top teams, in particular the Red Bull, certainly the most copied car of recent times. Guenther Steiner, team principal of the US team made it clear that for various reasons taking a philosophy of a winning car is not enough to compete at the top, but you have to work deeper, and for a team like Haas, which takes several parts from Ferrari, It's not that easy.

“We always try to realize different concepts – Steiner admitted to Autosport. But you can't always replicate what Red Bull does, because you have your own chassis, your own cooling system and radiators, so it's not possible to make such a big step, but you still try to work going in that direction. I think everyone is trying to prove something, but until we have certainty of major improvements why should we go in that direction? Maybe next year we'll think about it, but at the moment we're in no rush to approach that concept, because I think our car is still very competitive there in the middle of the pack."

“It's not so simple for us to bring different concepts over the course of the year, also because we can't change the suspension, because then we would have to modify the chassis. We are evaluating which path to follow for 2024, but I believe that copying Red Bull's philosophy doesn't necessarily mean going faster, because many things are needed to make everything work properly. We need to understand whether or not to change the concept of the car: it's also difficult because it's not just about the bodywork or radiators, because we can't modify the suspensions. Or rather, we could also do it, but it would be too complex a job, and with the Ferrari's suspension we can't do certain things."
