On the cancellation of the Australian GP: "It was not an easy decision"

F1 | Steiner: “I'm sure we will race this year”

Despite the serious situation that has arisen due to the coronavirus, Haas team principal Gunther Steiner still said he is confident about the Formula 1 championship. Four races have already been canceled and cannot be reinstated on the calendar. Other events are also in doubt as many countries have limited public events to slow the rate at which the virus is spreading.

“I'm pretty sure we will race this year and hopefully this virus stays under control, so the world can get back to normal life.”, he told Ziggo Sport.

The cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix has sparked much controversy but according to Steiner, the delay in communicating the decision is justified by the fact that various problems have arisen:

“The decision wasn't easy to make, go there to race. It's what a driver wants to do, you can't wait for the first race of the season, we're all ready and want to race. Then this comes and you have to understand that it was done for security reasons, the whole world is upside down because of this virus. So it's very difficult to think about this, there are many parties involved, the local promoters, the federation and ten teams with different backgrounds."
