F1 | Sergio Perez: “I discovered in Monza that I had been stopped by Racing Point”

Sergio Perez will no longer race with Racing Point next year, which will become Aston Martin. The Mexican will be replaced by Sebastian Vettel, a four-time world champion leaving Ferrari. As happened with the German, Checo was certainly not dismissed in a very elegant way, but in this sport, as we know, gratitude is not always in the foreground. Perez discovered that he had been stopped in Monza after overhearing a telephone conversation between Lawrence Stroll, owner of the team, and a lawyer appointed by the Canadian to draw up two contracts for Vettel: one as an Aston Martin driver and one as brand ambassador.

“Yes, the story is true – Perez admitted in Sochi. I discovered it on the day of the Monza race: I was hoping for more transparency from the team, but I can't criticize Otmar Szafnauer and Lawrence Stroll, I wish them the best for the future."

There are certainly opportunities for Checo to stay in Formula 1, and between Alfa Romeo but above all Haas, there is no shortage of offers to the Mexican, a luxury for the category. Perez may therefore have already reached an agreement with the US team, which in recent weeks will choose the 2021 line-up, now certainly orphaned by Grosjean and Magnussen, who have had their day. In addition to Checo, Schumacher, Giovinazzi and Hulkenberg also appear to be on the list, while Nikita Mazepin could bring with him a boatload of money to secure his place in 2021. On the Alfa side, everything will depend on whether or not Kimi Raikkonen is renewed, and at that point we will have to see who among the Ferrari Driver Academy drivers will be at his side, while if Iceman were to decide to retire, then an opportunity would also open up for Perez and Hulkenberg, but not only. The market is not over yet, the final shots await us.
